Darlings, If there is one band you should ride out the remaining few and precious days of summer to (or, in San Francisco's case, start finally welcoming summer to), it's my new favorite fellas, Smallpools. Now, I may be slightly biased considering I went to high school with the manager (Hi, Greg!!) and am friendly with the lead singer (Sean! So happy for you!), but their music really speaks for its upbeat self and doesn't need my humble two thumbs up to help sell it. Dre and I had an absolute blast at their SF show last week and are super grateful for their generous and kind hospitality in hosting us. They are a seriously talented group and the fact that they are such genuine and fun guys certainly doesn't hurt, either. I highly recommend their self titled EP! It's great for solo room dancing, windows down car rides, shower (or public?) sing-a-longs and pretty much any scenario where you might need a boost of the happies. Here's their first single, Dreaming, for your listening pleasure... In Gratitude, Trish

Foster the People's album "Torches" is so fun it nearly made me miss my bus stop today (I was jamming in my seat making music videos in my head, naturally). Pretty sure I scared the crap out of a tiny Asian lady or two when I lept out of my seat at the last minute... Anywho, care to join me in a bit of desk boogey-ing? Buy the album. You won't regret.
In Gratitude, Trish Bon Iver's new cd is stunningly beautiful from start to finish, but ever since my first listen this song in particular, Holocene, really captivated me. It's the perfect soundtrack to a bubble bath and red wine evening--which I gratefully indulged in just this past weekend. Nothing soothes me quite like the combination of warm, swirling bubbles, full-bodied, but firm and gripping cabernet sauvignon and a heavenly voice carrying my thoughts to a serene, care free place.
The video is equally captivating. The landscapes are breath takingly beautiful to the extent you can almost feel the crispness in the air; smell the mix of salt water and green mountain side. It doesn't hurt that the little boy is cute as a button, too :) According to the comments accompanying the post on YouTube it was shot in Reykjavík Iceland. Yea. You can officially add this to my list of must-see places. Love and Light, Trish These girls seriously rock separately...but together? oh my gosh. beautiful. bad ass. heavy. filling. And I love this cover too much not to share: Once again I find myself thinking how much I freaking love music.
In Gratitude, Trish This Bon Iver cover of one of my favorite songs from childhood (picture me sitting by my boombox, cycling through cassette tapes)--Bonnie Rait's "I Can't Make You Love Me"-- has been looping on my iPod pretty much all weekend. His sound is so unique; deliciously strange and haunting. The kind of sound that makes you feel it in your gut.
The change in his voice around the 3:20 mark is my favorite moment. It immediately brought this quote to mind: "One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain."-Bob Marley Listen all the way through if you can; he samples "Nick of Time" right at the end, too. So beautiful. I freaking love music. In Gratitude, Trish My SF ladies and I are headed to see Stevie Nicks in concert tonight and suffice to say I have some SERIOUS ants in ma pants at my desk right now. Stevie is....magic. She's a legend. She's THE hippie Mama, Queen, Goddess. Sigh, Sigh, Siiiiiigh I love her!! (Are you picturing me squealing like a Beiber Fever fan? Because that's what I'm doing)... Her song Gypsy with Fleetwood Mac is my life anthem, particularly at this point in time and there is a 99.9% chance I will cry if she sings it tonight. I am 99.9% not embarrassed to admit that. Once again I find myself quoting this song on my blog...I can't help myself....
so I'm back to the velvet underground back to the floor I love to a room with some lace and paper flowers back to the gypsy I was. I have goosebumps just thinking of how great this is going to be. Gosh she is so bad ass.... I will tell you everything tomorrow! With photos! Get psyched. In Gratitude, Trish aka total "band-aid" to Stevie Here's what's looping on my ipod currently...some new, some old, some ancient! All good, great, grand and wonderful to be listening to. Enjoy!!
1. Freelance Whales- Weathervanes Holy goodness this CD is amazeballs. Ashley, my college roommate, never disappoints me with new music recs...but this may be her best so far. Fave songs on the album (so hard to choose!!) are probably "Starring", "Broken Horse", "Generator ^ Second Floor" and "The Great Estates". I'm going to put them on right now...so in love. 2. Local Natives- Gorilla Manor Another great Ashley rec...saw them in concert a few months ago and they knocked my socks off. This is their only album (that I know of?), so I'm excited for a sequel! 3. Sara Bareilles- Kaleidoscope Heart Why can't I sing and play piano like her? Or just sing like her? Or just play piano like her? Why God? Why? "Basketcase" chokes me up every time...in a good way. Which sounds weird. But it's true. 4. Tristan Prettyman- Hello...x I dug up some old TP after she recently did me a huge favor for a friend. Basically i follow her blog, which is awesome; http://icecreamisbetterwithafork.tumblr.com/ She advertised that you could reach out to her to buy a CD...I did...and made a request for her to sign it, explaining how I felt it may cheer up a friend who was a big fan and kinda struggling at a life cross-road. She wrote back *immediately* and was so cool about the whole thing; going so far as to include a personalized note to my gal pal letting her know she was sending good thoughts for a brighter tomorrow. So cool, right? Makes me appreciate her summery voice and style even more. 5. Mumford & Sons- Sigh No More Wanna grab a pint? 6. Miike Snow- Miike Snow Listening to "Cult Logic" while walking to work is an instant mood booster. It's an odd combo for my route through China town, yet somehow it works for me :) 7. Mayer Hawthorne- A Strange Arrangement DJ-turned-solo-artist, Mr. Hawthorne fulfills all my old soul needs with his awesomely classic and vintage vibe w/sexy voice. Saw him open for Passion Pit, too...was super cute and crowd friendly. Always an artist bonus :) 8. City and Colour- Bring Me Your Love Hits ya where it counts. Just trust me. Singles: 1. Charlie Mars- Darkside of the Moon 2. Brazos- Kid 3. Bill Withers- Use Me 4. Big Boi- Shutterbug 5. The Band Perry- If I Die Young 6. Eric Hutchinson- You Don't Have to Believe Me 7. Jeff Buckley- Last Goodbye 8. Monsters of Folk- Dear God 9. My Morning Jacket- Golden 10. Neko Case- People Got A Lotta Nerve 11. Otis Redding- Pain In My Heart 12. Solander- Looking For Gold 13.
