Day 8: This city. Considering how frequently I talk about my love of San Francisco, the folks I've been blessed to meet and connect with here, as well as the surrounding awesomeness that is the Bay Area, it should come as no surprise this city makes its way onto my 30 days of thanks list. Living here has been one of the grandest adventures of my life. I would not trade my time spent in San Francisco for anything and I am deeply grateful for how things have unfolded since moving 3 years ago--the good, the bad, the ugly, the joyous...all of it. Speaking authentically, who knows how much longer I will end up calling this corner of the world home. In trusting the process my heart led me here, and in even greater trust I do believe it will lead me back east eventually. Maybe even soon. Time will tell, of course, but regardless of my days left inhabiting the west I know I can sleep easy knowing I made the absolute most of my time here. Frankly, I've carpe diem'ed the sh*t outta California. A friend of mine recently gave a piece of advice to another friend regarding the success of his relationship; a tip for finding that great connection in another--he said, simply, you have to be open to it. Because I was so open to being here--to saying yes to so much and so many--I am a better woman for it. Being open has allowed light, laughter and love to come rushing in; it has shifted my perspective and deepened my connection to life and the people who fill it...who make it worth living. In my soul I know that although I'm not from here, I got here as soon as I could--As soon as my spirit was really ready. Thank you for opening your heart to me, San Francisco...and for helping to crack mine wide open, too. In gratitude, Trish

Day 7: Poetry. For the times when words elude me...and more importantly, when the right words elude me...there is nothing better than finding a piece of poetry to say exactly how you're feeling.
love and light, Trish Thanks for sharing this with me, bestie. love and light, Trish Day 6: My right to vote. It's hard to believe less than 100 years ago my lady friends and I would not be allowed to participate in today's great privilege, while arguably being labeled as second class citizens. There is so much I could...and would like...to say about this in regards to my vote today, but instead I will refer you to some thoughts I shared here previously. Oh and here, too. Political views and party affiliations may change over time based on various needs. Economic demands and global relationships will inevitably shift as the world collectively struggles to figure out what now?. But doing what you feel in your heart is right...acting on the behalf of those labeled as second class citizens...in an effort to raise the word "equal" back to it's true origin? That will always be in style. In Obamatude,
Trish Day 5: Free lunch. I am incredibly fortunate to have my lunch paid for/provided by Weebly 5 days a week. I tried to do the math once to see exactly how many monies this saves me a month...but then I remembered math makes me sweat, so I stopped when I got to "a whole heck of a lot". When I first started here (almost 2 years ago!) I wanted to donate the equivalent to what I was saving a few times a year and the number admittedly got out of control--so I donate a fraction of the savings, instead, and send out deep rooted appreciation each time I sit down for lunch. Today's lunch was deliciously prepared for us in-house by Tom of Big Chef Tom's Belly Burgers, as arranged by Cater2.me. It was a huge hit with the team! In Satisfied Tummy Gratitude,
Trish It's a sun-shiny, super warm day here in SF (forecast of 80, woot!) so I whipped out my Joe's jean shorts, a flowy bird print tunic and Boutique 9 cage heels in an attempt to be summer-rocker-chic.... I was slightly wary of this little diddy at first (i.e. am I "cool" enough to wear jean cut offs and heels?) but eventually said eff it, I'm just gonna own this look.
Sometimes, it's all in the attitude :) In Gratitude, Trish Day 4: My healthy legs. Without them, I'd never be able to adventure and soak up the awesome California landscape in the ways I have. For example, this weekend I had the pleasure of spending the day-night-morning with my dear friend Courtney, including a 10 mile hike around Muir Woods. It was the perfect way to spend a sunny day and I'm incredibly thankful for my strong legs helping me to walk, climb, skip, hop and jump my way through the beautiful scenery (and through life, really)... Day 41/2 gratitude: Courtney making AWESOME vegetarian stuffed mushrooms for dinner. Holy heck these guys were delicious... Cheers to healthy legs and the places they carry us!
In Gratitude, Trish Day 3: Fall. Fall is, in my humble opinion, the best time of year in the Bay Area. It's pretty much the best time of year in anyplace I've lived (except Jersey Junes...I will never get sick of those) and I cherished every day of October and now every day of November thus far. Summer sunshine finally arrives in the city with little bursts of heat to excite the locals into shorts, skirts and outdoor happy hours. When the sun sets and the temperatures drop, gals wrap colorfully patterned scarves around their necks and playfully coerce their male counterparts into loaning a sweatshirt (ps-why are men's sweatshirts always so much better than girls?). There's a calm to Fall. A quiet in waking up snuggled under my fluffy white comforter, open window bringing in the newly crisped breeze. The first 10 minutes of waking--that's the part of the day I'd pause for a little, if possible. The hum of the fan is the only sound filling my tiny apartment, the heat from said fluffy comforter keeping me in a hazy state of relaxed, my breath still slow and steady from sleep. A morning walk is best in the Fall. With a fresh appreciation for that first cup of coffee (pumpkin spice, what else?) and the energizing stretch of my limbs down the street. I'm so lucky to live in a city with a backdrop that makes a morning walk as pretty as a picture, regardless of whether I turn left, right or straight up the hill from my building. So today I'm most thankful for Fall. For the unwinding of summer's go-go-go, travel, make plans mentality; for the peaceful shift into a season of heightened gratitude and giving, family and tradition. I'm off to hike with a college pal in all of Fall's beauty in a little corner of the world called Muir Woods. I can't wait to share photos with you tomorrow :) Happy Fall, Trish In honor of the awesome upcoming Thanksgiving holiday (soooo ready to stuff my face! woot!) I will be posting something that I am...what else?....grateful for every day. The key to making a gratitude list super powerful, I've learned, is to get pretty specific. While it's nice to say "I am grateful for my health", it's far more perspective-shifting-positive-mojo-boosting to dive into the nitty gritty of why, specifically, your health is a point of gratitude. I've found the more time we spend on the reasons why life knocks our socks off, the more apparent, frequent and fabulous these reasons become. Let's begin, shall we? Day One: I am incredibly grateful for the gift of yoga at work. Weebly allows us to enjoy a healthy, mind/body/soul stretching work out in our office twice a month with the super rad Lindsey. We provide the mats, have an in-office shower for post yoga de-stinkafying and even sometimes make juices and smoothies afterward. I am so happy when folks step outside of their normal work out comfort zones to give yoga a shot; this practice has made such a difference in my life and I'm loving watching the team get into it as well. For me, yoga is the perfect combination of a getting a good sweat and strengthening my physical self while also training in the practice of being present. It helps me re-center and come back to myself, which is a huge blessing. I can't think of a better way to spend an hour break at work! Day Two: Oh wait. I can think of one other way to spend a break at work that is preeeettty swell.... Chair massages! Twice a month we also get treated to massages here at Weebly. I'm thankful for the loving touch of our massage therapists and the way my muscles feel refreshed after just 20 minutes with them. Getting regular massages is such a luxury--I'd never have the (smart) budget for it otherwise, so this is a real treat for me.
Anyone interested in keeping a 30 Days of Thanks journal with me? I'd love to hear from you! Happy Friday :) In Gratitude, Trish |
